Do you sit in front of a computer all day? Do you play video games on a regular basis? Do frequently use online shopping and ordering?
You’re not alone!
Most people spend on average 8 hours a day looking at screens; more specifically, computer screens. Although you might not realize it while it’s happening, this is can cause serious long-term side effects on your eyesight and vision. It’s called Computer Vision Syndrome.
This is why we want to help keep you protected from the long-term side effects of what most of us see as routine and normal!
Here are some easy ways to help maintain your vision and unhealthy deterioration:
- Get regular eye exams once a year if you are frequently using computers
- Turn off overhead fluorescent lights and use floor lights that provide indirect incandescent or halogen lights
- Reduce glare by reducing outside light or consider using a computer hood
- Upgrade your display to a flat-panel liquid crystal display (LCD)
- Adjust the lighting on your computer display so that the brightness is about the same as your work environment
- Blink more often! When people use computers they blink on average 5 times less than normally
- Use the 20-20-20 rule! Every 20 minutes gaze at something 20 feet away for about 20 seconds
- It is suggested that people take four extra five minute breaks throughout the day to help maintain your health
- Place papers that you are using on a stand adjacent to the computer screen to reduce the amount of eye movement
- Seek out professional computer glasses
We want to make sure that you don’t lose your vision any earlier than necessary – that’s why we suggest keeping up with your vision by using some of these easy tips.
